Synallaxis patagonica d'Orbigny, 1839.  ...  Etymology. The generic name, from the Greek pseudo (false) and asthenes (insignificant, strengthless), denotes the outward resemblance of species of this genus to species of Asthenes but highlights the fact that they are not closely related. The name is feminine in gender" (Derryberry et al. 2010).

humicola
Mod. L. humicolus  ground-dwelling, humicolous  < L. humus, humi  ground; -cola  dweller  < colere  to inhabit.

Humicola
(Muscicapidae; ?syn. Cercotrichas) Based on group or subfamily name Humicolae of von der Mühle, 1856 (< L. humus, humi  ground; -cola  dweller  < colere  to inhabit); "1. Both von der Mühle, especially, and von Homeyer indicate a group or section of small chats, now named under various genera, rather than the Rufous-tailed Scrub Robin Cercotrichas galactotes specifically" (JAJ 2021).
